Copyrights and its laws...

Tonight we talked about copyright and its laws. This is a very sensitive and confusing subject and I am not more educated about it but at least I know where to look for the information and my responsabilities as a teacher to ensure that our students understandand their legal rights and responsabilities under copyright law and  how the law affects their creativity. It is also important that our students understand the relationship between copyright and innovation, fair use, and how copyright is interpreted by copyright owners. It is true that copyright law has many restrictions but at the same time permits positive actions to protect ourselves in the digital media.
We also discussed about some of the standards in educational field such as, fair use of online material; purpose and character of use; nature of the copyrighted work, amount or portion taken; and the effect of its use.
In conclusion, it is our responsabilities  to guide our students  and educate ourselves to a better understanding of the boundaries of copyright law to help our students make wise choices for a better online behavior. It's challenging to understand every piece of it copyright law! The most prudent thing to do is to ask permission when using someone else creativity as part of our work.

Inspirational thoughts...

Last night we had a guess speaker, who gave us some great inspiration as we will become
the teachers of the future. One of the most important thing that he talked about was the importance
of being prepare to the rapid changes that are happening with technology and consequently
with the minds of our students.
As teachers, we have to be prepare and vulnerable to those changes; therefore it's very crucial
that we are updated, engaged and knowledgeable of how to use technology in the classroom as a great,
modern and effective way to deliver instruction.
Our state, California, has been facing a budget crisis, which is affecting tremendously the education
of our children.  One of the negative consequences of this crisis is the increased number of students per teacher. Therefore  teachers should be using technology as a way to improve and deliver
instruction in a timely manner.  Teachers have to deal with more issues in the classroom since the ratio of students per teacher has increased. With this in mind, technology is a great, fabulus and amazing vehicle to use that  will help  teachers  a lot to maximize their precious time and obtain immediate feedback from students. Creating a survey online is a great example of this strategy. I will definitely use it in my classroom.
Great speaker! I enjoyed the class a lot! Thanks!

Motivate yourself and motivate others!

I missed class last Thursday and I had a hard time opening some of the  videos but I learned something about the motivational video. I learned that we all have different reasons to do things and how important is to be motivated in life to create and to  take others perspective into account when we collaborate in a project together. That is why I love technology. But I am so immigrant and I know I have a long way to go; but these reflections are helping me to understand how much there is out there for me to learn. I know that all these tools that we are learning are going to be very beneficial for my career as a teacher. I see how much students enjoy computer classes and I want them to love my class, so I will motivate them through the use of technology and I know their creativity will bloom. Technology helps everyone see things from their  different perspective. We can be creative in some many different ways; especially when we are designing our lessons. We can be our own architects of our learning and our students can be their own designers of their future. It's very critical that we support our students' learning through  projects using technology. I am learning a lot! My kids are already learning from me, and they feel so knowledgeable  about all these different websites that they can use in their future projects.

Pros and Cons of Social Media in the classroom

I truly believe that technology is very important in the life of a student. The impact that technology creates in the education of anyone is amazing. It opens doors, and help students expand their knowledge, research, stay connected with the world and find hundreds of opportunities. But like any other thing in life it's important to be regulated and restricited especially in school settings. Despite all the great benefits of the use of technology in the classroom; I think that  teachers and administrator should prohibit the social media in the classroom, but I agree with the use of technology in the classroom for learning purposes and engaging activities.that required technology, Many students don't have technology in their homes, so it's important for them to be exposed to some type of technology at school, such as clickers, which are very helpful for teachers to get inmediate feedback of a lesson taught. Some of the reasons why I am against the use of social media in the classroom such as facebook and twitter is because they are a  distraction and can they affect  students' learning process ; and the inadecuate use of social media can harm others through cyberbullying as a weapon of malicious behavior.
It's very important that teachers are vigilant of students' behaviors, since despite all efforts made by administrators and teachers to prohibit phones and gadgets in the classrooms, students still manage to text and use their phones in the classroom. I think it will be very hard to prevent the social media in the classroom but we can at least stay firm, enforce rules and create consequences for the benefit of all students.

Videos, podcasts and animation...cool stuff!

Today in my technology class I learned many cool stuff such as making my own video with pictures. I tried making my own video and it is pretty cool. I will definitely use this technique in my class and in my personal life. I love photos and videos and I always work with digital albums, but this will give me the opportunity to be more creative and explore different ways of presenting our beautiful memories. We also learned about podcasts. This is flipteaching, which is Flip teaching is a form of blended learning which encompasses any use of Internet technology to leverage the learning in a classroom, so a teacher can spend more time interacting with students instead of lecturing. This is most commonly being done using teacher-created videos that students view outside of class time. It is also known as backwards classroom, reverse instruction, flipping the classroom, and reverse teaching. I think this technique is already very popular among high school teachers who are trying to get more results out of students, so they can do more projects at school rather than lecturing.
I think that podcasting is also a very useful technique that my studends and I can use in the classrroom. PA podcast is a type of digital media consisting of an episodic series of audio radio, video, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device. The word is a neologism derived from "broadcast" and "pod" from the success of the iPod, as podcasts are often listened to on portable media players. In the context of Apple devices, the term "Podcasts" refers to the audio and video version of podcasts. This is available for people anytime they want. People just need a microphone, video, computer and web to create their own video. PEOPLE only to  subscribe and download podcast in computers, devices, and post.

Searching the Web!

Today the technology class was a little overwhelming. The teacher talked about so many different stuff, that I left the class confused. But i knew that I had the presentation in the website, and I could review at home quietly. The most interesting thing that I learned today was the power of google. I didnt't have any idea that we can customize our search by dates, or go to advance search, or printout pictures in different colors. It is very interesting to understand how to obtain the right information in the internet.  We also learned that so many different schools in the world are already using technology to provide instructions and to give the students the freedom to be the explorers and responsible for their learning.
Gamification was also part of the interesting presentation. I think I will talke my time to learn it well ,since I am a Spanish teacher and I think that the kids will have so much fun doing it in Spanish! One interesting website that we learned about is edutopia.org, This particular website is going to help me a lot to obtain some teaching strategies, activities, lesson plans and kind of information. Another cool thing that I learned is how to create word cloud and digital badges. I work with a tutoring company and they gave a badge. I think is pretty cool and we definitely can use badges with our students. They will love it!
