Pros and Cons of Social Media in the classroom

I truly believe that technology is very important in the life of a student. The impact that technology creates in the education of anyone is amazing. It opens doors, and help students expand their knowledge, research, stay connected with the world and find hundreds of opportunities. But like any other thing in life it's important to be regulated and restricited especially in school settings. Despite all the great benefits of the use of technology in the classroom; I think that  teachers and administrator should prohibit the social media in the classroom, but I agree with the use of technology in the classroom for learning purposes and engaging activities.that required technology, Many students don't have technology in their homes, so it's important for them to be exposed to some type of technology at school, such as clickers, which are very helpful for teachers to get inmediate feedback of a lesson taught. Some of the reasons why I am against the use of social media in the classroom such as facebook and twitter is because they are a  distraction and can they affect  students' learning process ; and the inadecuate use of social media can harm others through cyberbullying as a weapon of malicious behavior.
It's very important that teachers are vigilant of students' behaviors, since despite all efforts made by administrators and teachers to prohibit phones and gadgets in the classrooms, students still manage to text and use their phones in the classroom. I think it will be very hard to prevent the social media in the classroom but we can at least stay firm, enforce rules and create consequences for the benefit of all students.

  1. I have the same concerns. I feel that many students still are not educated to use social media as a tool for learning. Our job as educators, is motivate the students to use social media in a responsible manner.
Guidelines in the use of social media are very important and we need to learn and get familiar with them.
